Graduation - Friday 23rd June 2022
Congratulations to our wonderful 6th class pupils who graduated on Thursday 23rd June. They led a lovely service in Kilcommon Church, joined by the whole school, parents and staff. A very special day for them.
Sports Day
The sun shone and we had a fantastic Sports Day on Tuesday 21st June. All Saints NS joined us for the day which kicked off with fun game stations in the morning. Races kicked off straight after lunch. Pupils were competitive but good-natured and everyone had a great day. Parents and pupils cheered on from the sidelines and the arrival of the ice-cream van at the end off the day brought a great day to an end.
Soccer Blitz
Following two years of cancelled dates, Friday 27th May saw the return of our diocesan soccer blitz. The sun was shining as over 550 pupils arrived in their soccer finery to the community pitch in Aughrim, Co. Wicklow. Buses and cars brought pupils, their families and their teachers from Kilcommon N.S. Tinahely, Gorey Central N.S., St Edan’s N.S. Ferns, St Mary’s N.S. Enniscorthy, Carrigduff N.S. Bunclody, St Iberius N.S. Wexford and All Saints N.S. Carnew.
This was the first time in many years that all seven schools came together for one blitz, having previously divided into two smaller blitzes and the aim for the day was fun and inclusion for all. Teams were mixed gender and there was an emphasis on positive participation. The pupils were all brilliant! They formed almost sixty teams and they played over the twelve pitches marked out for the day. It was a busy, happy (and even a little hectic) day, but the children had great fun. As time was of the essence, medals and trophies for their schools were sent back with the winning team in each category for the mini presentations back in the schools.
A huge thanks must go to everyone who helped prepare for the blitz. There were many parent and past-pupil volunteers helping in various areas. Parking volunteers kept the grounds safe for the pupils and they guided cars to the nearby GAA grounds which were opened especially for the day. Others helped transport goals, lay out pitches the evening beforehand and clear away after the event. Others walked the pitches throughout the day to help, answer questions and collect scores. A wonderful crew of volunteers then helped ref each of the matches. Referees came from all the schools and they did a super job keeping everything running smoothly. Many hours went into preparation and it is always a big undertaking, but it is always worth it when you can feel the excitement build up in school in the days beforehand and when you see the delight on the faces of the children on the day.
As we look back on a wonderful day, we are delighted to have been able to host an event which allowed and encouraged our schools to come together and have fun. Pupils already look forward to attending next year’s blitz and hopefully everyone else will have recovered by then! A fantastic day for everyone!

Green School Award
Kilcommon NS was awarded its eighth green flag in May. So much work was done by pupils in all the classes but it was the committee of 5th 6th who had all the answers as they met with the environment officer for their assessment. The pupils celebrated the awards ceremony online, with a great cheer for when our schools were called out, We were awarded out 'Global citizenship - Litter & Waste' flag and we celebrated with lots of outdoor games and wonderful buns for everyone - with green glass on any.
HSE Healthy Dudes
For 5 weeks at the end of term, the corridors smelled wonderful every Tuesday afternoon as 5th & 6th participated in this HSE cookery course. Everything from scones, buns to pizzas, bolognese, soups and smoothies were on the menu as they chopped, mixed and stirred the pots! Thank you to their tutors Hillary and Deirdre who ensured they had a great time as they learnt cookery skills and all about keeping your body healthy.
New Willow Tunnel
Thank you to Helen and Debbie who planted a fabulous willow tunnel in the school grounds. It is fabulous! We will enjoy watching it grow and fill in. Thank you to Nathan's mum, Nicolette, for the very healthy willow plants too.
